B58 platform build guide · Supra MK5 · M340i · Z4 M40i

The B58 build guide. Staged the right way.

BMW's B58 inline-six is one of the most tunable engines of the modern era, and it powers the Toyota GR Supra MK5, BMW M340i, Z4 M40i, M240i and M440i. This is our opinionated stage 1, 2 and 3 parts list for the platform — real parts we stock, chosen to work together, installed and aligned in-house in Coral Springs.

Stage 1 · B58 stage 1 parts list

The daily-plus foundation.

Stage 1 on a B58 is about waking the car up without complicating it: better induction sound, an exhaust that finally lets the inline-six speak, and springs that fix the factory fender gap. No tune required, no drivability trade-offs, and everything here supports the next stage instead of getting replaced by it.

Stage 2 · B58 stage 2 parts list

Tune plus supporting mods, in the right order.

A real B58 stage 2 parts list is a tune plus three supporting jobs: a downpipe so the turbo can breathe, cooling upgrades so the power repeats on a Florida summer day instead of vanishing to heat soak, and charge pipes because the factory plastic ones are a known failure at higher boost. Do these before chasing numbers and the car makes its power all day long.

Stage 3 · track prep parts list

Track prep: control before power.

The B58 makes power easily. What decides your track day is whether the car stops, turns and stays cool on lap eight the way it did on lap one. Our stage 3 list is suspension you can align properly, brakes that survive repeat heavy stops, and cooling that holds temps through a full session. Upgraded turbo builds beyond this are a custom conversation with the shop.

Show & stance

Fitment that photographs as well as it drives.

Every B58 car — Supra MK5, M340i, Z4 M40i — runs a 5x112 bolt pattern, and the Supra’s wide rear haunches reward an aggressive setup that most online fitment calculators get wrong. We spec wheels, tires, drop and alignment as one package: RAYS, BBS, Advan, Vossen and other premium lines, mounted on scratch-free equipment and Road Force balanced in-house.

  • Wheel and tire packages spec’d for 5x112 B58 fitments
  • Springs or coilovers matched to the wheel setup
  • Hunter Road Force balancing and expert alignment
  • TPMS sensors in stock, cloned to your car

Installed in-house

Parts are half the build. Installation is the other half.

Everything on this page can be installed, fabricated around and aligned in our own shop. Downpipes and exhausts go on with proper hardware and heat management, cooling installs get bled and pressure-checked, and every suspension change ends on our Hunter alignment system so the car drives the way the parts list promised.

  • Lift work, exhaust and cooling installs done in-house
  • Custom fabrication when off-the-shelf doesn’t fit the build
  • Hunter alignment for lowered and coilover cars
  • Road-checked before the car goes back to you

B58 questions

Before you order parts.

What’s actually in a B58 stage 2 parts list?

A tune plus the supporting mods that let it work: a high-flow downpipe, an upgraded heat exchanger (the B58’s charge cooling is water-to-air and heat-soaks quickly), aluminum charge pipes to replace the failure-prone factory plastic, and usually an intake. The exhaust behind the downpipe is optional for power but most owners do it for sound.

Do the Supra MK5, M340i and Z4 M40i share parts?

They share the B58 engine, so tuning logic and many engine-side concepts carry over, but chassis-specific parts differ. That’s why our stage lists above include both Supra/Z4 and G-chassis BMW versions of the key pieces. Send us your exact car and we’ll map the list to it.

Do I need a tune for stage 1?

No. Our stage 1 list is intake, exhaust and springs — all of it works on the stock calibration and none of it gets thrown away when you move to stage 2 later.

What about upgraded turbo and stage 3 power builds?

The parts exist and we install them, but past bolt-on stage 2 the right answer depends on fuel, transmission, cooling and how you actually use the car. That’s a conversation with the shop, not an add-to-cart decision. Our stage 3 list above focuses on what every fast B58 needs regardless: brakes, suspension and cooling.

Can you install and align everything here?

Yes. Every part on this page can be installed in our Coral Springs shop, and suspension work is finished on our Hunter alignment system. We serve enthusiasts across South Florida, from Boca Raton and Parkland to Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
