Porsche Cayman & Boxster platform build guide · 987 · 981 · 718 · 2005–2025

The Porsche Cayman & Boxster build guide. Staged the right way.

Mid-engine, low and honest: a Cayman or Boxster tells you exactly what the chassis is doing, and it rewards the owner who sets it up as a whole. Whether you have a 987 you want sorted, a 981 you want sharper, or a 718 you want to stop and turn better on lap eight, this is our opinionated stage 1, 2 and 3 parts list: real parts we stock, chosen to work together, installed and aligned in-house in Coral Springs.

Stage 1 · Cayman & Boxster stage 1 parts list

The daily-plus foundation.

Stage 1 on a Cayman or Boxster is about fixing what Porsche left on the table without touching the calibration: sport springs that close the fender gap and work with PASM, a street pad with real bite from cold, and stainless lines for a firmer pedal. Intakes for these cars aren’t in our online catalog; we source and install them, so ask if induction noise is part of your plan. Everything here carries forward to stage 2 instead of getting replaced by it.

Stage 2 · Cayman & Boxster chassis parts list

Sharpen the chassis, in the right order.

A mid-engine car is decided by how it rotates, and Porsche ships the Cayman and Boxster deliberately safe. Our stage 2 is a sway bar kit that takes the built-in push out of the front end, adjustable arms that let us set caster and camber properly on a lowered car, and a Bilstein B12 package for owners who want damping to match the springs. Exhaust is thin in our online catalog: a Borla cat-back for the 981 and AWE’s Track Edition for the 718 are the real options, and 987 systems are shop-sourced, so tell us the car and we’ll quote the complete package.

Stage 3 · track prep parts list

Track prep: control before power.

A Cayman is the most balanced car Porsche makes, which is why track days expose the two things the factory setup leaves soft: damping and heat. Our stage 3 list is coilovers that keep PASM alive or replace it by design, a real track pad front and rear, and CSF radiators for the 981 and 718 that run hot in Florida traffic. Two-piece rotors for these cars aren’t in our online catalog yet; we source and install them. Turbo and big-power work beyond this is a custom conversation with the shop.

Show & stance

Fitment that photographs as well as it drives.

Every 987, 981 and 718 runs 5x130 with a 71.6mm bore, the same hub as the 911, so BBS, RAYS, Advan and the rest of the premium catalog bolt on in the 18in, 19in and 20in staggered sizes the car wears best. We spec wheels, tires, drop and alignment as one package, mounted on scratch-free equipment and Road Force balanced in-house, with the offset done right so the mid-engine car sits flat and fills its arches without rubbing under compression.

  • Wheel and tire packages spec’d for 5x130 Cayman and Boxster fitments
  • Sport springs or coilovers matched to the wheel setup, PASM kept working
  • Hunter Road Force balancing and expert alignment
  • TPMS sensors in stock, cloned to your car

Installed in-house

Parts are half the build. Installation is the other half.

Everything on this page can be installed, set up and aligned in our own shop. Coilovers go in with the ride height corner-weighted and PASM either kept alive with DampTronic hardware or retained by design, pads and rotors get bedded properly, and every suspension change ends on our Hunter alignment system so the car rotates the way a mid-engine Porsche should instead of wandering under braking.

  • Lift work, brake and suspension installs done in-house
  • PASM and Sport Chrono aware setups, no warning lights
  • Hunter alignment with corner weighting for lowered and coilover cars
  • Road-checked before the car goes back to you

Sourcing the parts the catalog doesn’t show

Intakes, exhaust systems for the 987, two-piece rotors, IMS bearing solutions for the early 987 and ECU calibration are things we source and install for Cayman and Boxster customers directly rather than list online. If your plan needs them, send the car details below and we’ll quote the complete package with installation.

Send the generation and trim, what’s already done to the car, and which path above fits how you drive. We’ll come back with a concrete parts list and installation plan, in the right order for your budget.

Cayman & Boxster questions

Before you order parts.

Will lowering springs or coilovers break PASM?

Not if they are chosen for it. The H&R springs on this page are the PASM-compatible versions, the Bilstein B16 DampTronic plugs into the factory PASM harness, and for cars where a conventional coilover replaces the electronic dampers we fit the right cancellation hardware so there are no warning lights. Tell us whether your car has PASM and we’ll map the list to it.

Do the Cayman and Boxster share parts?

Within a generation, almost everything: the 987 Cayman and Boxster share suspension and brake hardware, the 981 pair share even more, and 718 parts are listed for both bodies. Across generations they do not; springs, bars and coilovers are 987, 981 or 718 specific. Our lists call out which cars each part fits; send us your exact car and we’ll confirm before anything is ordered.

Do I need a tune for stage 1?

No. Our Cayman and Boxster stage 1 list is springs, pads and lines — all of it works on the stock calibration, and none of it gets thrown away when you move to stage 2 later.

What about intakes, exhaust and the IMS bearing?

We install all of it, but most of it isn’t listed in our online catalog. Intakes for these cars, exhaust systems for the 987 and IMS bearing solutions for the early 987 are shop-quoted parts: send the car details and we’ll price the complete package with installation. The 981 Borla and 718 AWE systems above are the exceptions we do stock.

Can you install and align everything here?

Yes. Every part on this page can be installed in our Coral Springs shop, and suspension work is finished on our Hunter alignment system with corner weighting when the car calls for it. We serve enthusiasts across South Florida, from Boca Raton and Parkland to Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

Which Cayman or Boxster are you building?

Our catalog lists Cayman and Boxster fitment by model year, so base, S, GTS and Spyder parts appear together for your generation — check each product’s fitment notes for trim-specific pieces. Set your exact year in the catalog to narrow further.
