Toyota GR86, 86 & Subaru BRZ platform build guide · FR-S · 86 · BRZ · GR86 · 2013–2026

The GR86 and BRZ build guide. Staged the right way.

Light, rear-drive, naturally aspirated and balanced from the factory: the Toyobaru twins reward parts that sharpen what is already there, not parts that fight it. Whether you drive a first-gen FR-S, 86 or BRZ on the 2.0L or a current GR86 or BRZ on the 2.4L, this is our opinionated stage 1, 2 and 3 parts list: real parts we stock, chosen to work together, installed and aligned in-house in Coral Springs.

Stage 1 · GR86 & BRZ stage 1 parts list

The daily-plus foundation.

Stage 1 on a Toyobaru is the bolt-ons that work on the stock calibration and stay on the car as the build grows: an intake that lets you hear the flat-four breathe, a cat-back that gives it a voice without droning on I-95, and a chassis part that closes the gap or tightens the front end. Nothing here needs a tune, and nothing here gets thrown away when you add one later.

Stage 2 · GR86 & BRZ power and cooling parts list

Breathe better, run cooler.

These cars are naturally aspirated, so stage 2 isn’t a bigger turbo. On the 2.0L it’s a long-tube header that fills in the famous midrange torque dip, paired with a matching ECU calibration. On both engines it’s cooling: a thermostatic oil cooler and a bigger radiator so oil and coolant temperatures stay put on a hot day or a hard session, and a catch can to keep oil out of the intake. Manual first-gen cars get a clutch that matches. The calibration is shop-quoted rather than listed online; tell us the car and we’ll price the complete package with installation.

Stage 3 · track prep parts list

Track prep: control before more power.

These chassis are the reason people buy the car, and track prep is about letting them work harder for longer. Our stage 3 list is coilovers with real damping control, sway bars that let you tune the balance between push and rotation, rear camber arms so the tires wear evenly at the alignment a track day wants, and pads and a front big brake kit that survive back-to-back sessions in South Florida heat. Limited-slip upgrades and seats aren’t in our online catalog; we source and install them, so tell us the car and we’ll quote them with the rest.

Show & stance

Fitment that photographs as well as it drives.

Every car on this page runs 5x100 with a 56.1mm bore, shared with a long list of Subarus, so the premium wheel catalog is deep in the 17in and 18in sizes these cars wear best. We spec wheels, tires, drop and alignment as one package, mounted on scratch-free equipment and Road Force balanced in-house, with spacers and offset chosen so the arches fill without rubbing at full lock or under compression.

  • Wheel and tire packages spec’d for 5x100 fitment
  • Springs or coilovers matched to the wheel setup
  • Hunter Road Force balancing and expert alignment
  • H&R and Eibach hub-centric spacers in stock

Installed in-house

Parts are half the build. Installation is the other half.

Everything on this page can be installed, set up and aligned in our own shop. Headers and cat-backs go in on the lift with new gaskets and hardware, coolers and catch cans are plumbed so they stay dry, coilovers are set to ride height and corner-weighted, and every suspension change ends on our Hunter alignment system so the car drives the way the parts list promised instead of darting over expansion joints.

  • Lift work, exhaust, clutch and suspension installs done in-house
  • Oil cooler and catch can plumbing done cleanly and leak-checked
  • Custom fabrication when off-the-shelf doesn’t fit the build
  • Hunter alignment with corner weighting for lowered and coilover cars

Sourcing the parts the catalog doesn’t show

The ECU calibration a header needs, lowering springs for the first-gen cars, and 2.4L clutch upgrades aren’t in our online catalog yet. We source and install them for GR86 and BRZ customers directly, and our services page covers tuning. If your plan needs any of it, send the car details below and we’ll quote the complete package with installation.

Tell us the car and the outcome.

Send the year and model, manual or automatic, what’s already done to the car, and which path above fits how you drive. We’ll come back with a concrete parts list and installation plan, in the right order for your budget.

GR86 & BRZ questions

Before you order parts.

Do the GR86, 86, FR-S and BRZ share parts?

Within a generation, a lot. The FR-S, 86 and first-gen BRZ are one chassis with the 2.0L, and the GR86 and second-gen BRZ are one chassis with the 2.4L, so intakes, exhausts, coolers and most suspension carry across the badges. Between generations much less carries over: engines, radiators and exhausts are generation-specific, and some brake and suspension parts are too. Our lists call out which cars each part fits; send us your exact car and we’ll confirm before anything is ordered.

Do I need a tune for stage 1?

No. Our stage 1 list is intake, cat-back and chassis parts, and all of it works on the stock calibration. A long-tube header on the 2.0L is where a matching ECU calibration comes in, and we quote that with the install.

Why is there no turbo kit on this page?

Forced induction on these cars is a full engine program, not a bolt-on: fuel, cooling, clutch, calibration and often internals all change together. It isn’t something we list online. If that is where you want to go, send the car details and your goals and we’ll talk through a plan and a realistic budget with you directly.

Is an oil cooler really necessary?

For street driving, no. For track days or hard canyon and autocross use, it is one of the first things we recommend: sustained high-rpm sessions push oil temperatures up, and South Florida heat doesn’t help. A thermostatic kit keeps warm-up time normal on the street and holds temperatures steady when you push.

Can you install and align everything here?

Yes. Every part on this page can be installed in our Coral Springs shop, and suspension work is finished on our Hunter alignment system with corner weighting when the car calls for it. We serve enthusiasts across South Florida, from Boca Raton and Parkland to Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

GR86 & BRZ parts

Which car are you building?

The FR-S, 86 and first-gen BRZ share a chassis and the 2.0L engine, and the GR86 and second-gen BRZ share the 2.4L, so many parts appear under more than one card — check each product’s fitment notes for model-year and manual-versus-automatic variants.
