Nissan GT-R platform build guide · R35 · 2009–2016 · 2017–2024 · VR38DETT

The Nissan GT-R build guide. Staged the right way.

Twin turbos, all-wheel drive and a dual-clutch gearbox that puts all of it to the ground: the R35 is a car that was built to be modified, and one that punishes a random parts list. Whether you have an early car or a 2017-on facelift, this is our opinionated stage 1, 2 and 3 parts list for the VR38DETT: real parts we stock, chosen to work together, installed and aligned in-house in Coral Springs.

Stage 1 · GT-R stage 1 parts list

The daily-plus foundation.

Stage 1 on a GT-R is about fixing what Nissan left on the table without touching the calibration: springs that close the fender gap and leave the Bilstein DampTronic dampers working, a street pad with real bite from cold, stainless lines for a firmer pedal on a heavy car, and an intake that lets you hear the turbos spool. Street pads for 2017-on cars are thin in our online catalog; we list the one that covers them and source the rest. Everything here carries forward to stage 2 instead of getting replaced by it.

Stage 2 · GT-R stage 2 parts list

Tune plus supporting mods, in the right order.

A real VR38 stage 2 is a tune plus the hardware that lets it work in Florida heat: a front-mount intercooler that stops heat soak between pulls, larger intake pipes so the stock turbos can breathe, blow-off valves that hold boost the factory plastic ones leak, and a catch can so the intake tract stays clean once the crankcase pressure goes up. Downpipes and midpipes for the R35 aren’t in our online catalog, and neither is calibration for 2017-on cars; we source and install both, so tell us the car and we’ll quote the complete package.

Stage 3 · track prep parts list

Track prep: control before power.

A GT-R is quick out of any corner. What decides your track day is whether a 3,800lb car stops and turns on lap eight the way it did on lap one, with oil and brake temperatures climbing in Florida heat. Our stage 3 list is coilovers that either talk to DampTronic or cancel it cleanly, two-piece racing rotors, a real track pad for the early and late cars, and an oil cooler for the VR38, which runs hot on track before anything else does. SPL arms, Whiteline bars and monoball bushings are in the full list below. Turbo upgrades and GR6 clutch work beyond this is a custom conversation with the shop.

Show & stance

Fitment that photographs as well as it drives.

Every R35 runs 5x114.3 with a 66.1mm bore, which opens the door to RAYS, BBS, Advan and the rest of the premium catalog in the 20in staggered sizes the car wears best. We spec wheels, tires, drop and alignment as one package, mounted on scratch-free equipment and Road Force balanced in-house, with the offset done right so the wide rear arches fill without rubbing under load.

  • Wheel and tire packages spec’d for 5x114.3 GT-R fitments
  • H.A.S. springs or coilovers matched to the wheel setup, DampTronic kept working
  • Hunter Road Force balancing and expert alignment
  • TPMS sensors in stock, cloned to your car

Installed in-house

Parts are half the build. Installation is the other half.

Everything on this page can be installed, set up and aligned in our own shop. Intercoolers and intake pipes go in with every coupler and clamp seated so a tuned car holds boost, coilovers go in corner-weighted with the DampTronic system either kept alive or cancelled properly, pads and rotors get bedded the right way, and every suspension change ends on our Hunter alignment system so the car drives the way the parts list promised.

  • Lift work, intercooler, intake and brake installs done in-house
  • DampTronic-aware coilover setups, no warning lights
  • Hunter alignment with corner weighting for lowered and coilover cars
  • Road-checked before the car goes back to you

Sourcing the parts the catalog doesn’t show

Downpipes, midpipes, turbo inlets, upgraded turbos, GR6 clutch packs and ECU/TCM calibration for 2017-on cars are things we source and install for GT-R customers directly rather than list online. If your stage 2 or 3 plan needs them, send the car details below and we’ll quote the complete package with installation.

GT-R questions

Before you order parts.

What’s actually in a GT-R stage 2 parts list?

A tune plus the supporting mods that let it work: a front-mount intercooler so the car stops heat soaking between pulls, larger intake pipes for the stock turbos, blow-off valves that hold boost, downpipes and midpipes, and a catch can. The intercooler, pipes, valves and catch can are on this page. Downpipes aren’t in our online catalog yet, and the Cobb Accessport we stock covers 2009–2015 cars; for 2017-on cars we source and install the calibration as part of the package.

Do the early and 2017-on R35s share parts?

Most of them. Every R35 shares its chassis, so coilovers, arms, bushings, intercoolers, intake pipes and blow-off valves generally fit 2009 through 2024. Brakes are where it splits: the front fitment changed for 2012 and again for Nismo cars, so pads, rotors and lines are year-specific. Our lists call out which cars each part fits; send us your exact car and we’ll confirm before anything is ordered.

Do I need a tune for stage 1?

No. Our GT-R stage 1 list is springs, pads, lines and intake — all of it works on the stock calibration, and none of it gets thrown away when you move to stage 2 later.

Will coilovers break the DampTronic dampers?

Not if they are installed for it. Conventional coilovers replace the electronic Bilstein dampers, so we fit KW’s cancellation kit for the R35 and the car throws no warning lights. If you want to keep the factory dampers, the H.A.S. spring kit in stage 1 gives you height adjustment on the stock DampTronic units instead.

Can you install and align everything here?

Yes. Every part on this page can be installed in our Coral Springs shop, including the intercooler and intake plumbing, and suspension work is finished on our Hunter alignment system with corner weighting when the car calls for it. We serve enthusiasts across South Florida, from Boca Raton and Parkland to Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

GT-R parts

Which GT-R are you building?

Our catalog lists GT-R fitment by model year, so Premium, Track Edition and Nismo parts appear together for your years — check each product’s fitment notes for Nismo-specific brake and spring pieces. Set your exact year in the catalog to narrow further.
