BMW M5 & 5 Series platform build guide · E60 · F10 · F90 · G30 · G90 · 2006–2026

The BMW M5 and 5 Series build guide. Staged the right way.

Five generations of the same idea: a sedan that behaves like a sports car when you ask it to. Whether you have an E60 whose V10 needs its bearings and cooling looked after, an F10 or F90 M5 you want to breathe and stop better, a 540i or M550i you want to sharpen, or a G90 that is still new, this is our opinionated stage 1, 2 and 3 parts list: real parts we stock, chosen to work together, installed and aligned in-house in Coral Springs.

Stage 1 · M5 stage 1 parts list

The daily-plus foundation.

Stage 1 on a 5 Series is about fixing what BMW left on the table without touching the calibration: H&R sport springs that close the fender gap on the G30 and the G90 while the electronic dampers keep working, a matched Bilstein spring and damper kit for the F10 550i, a street pad with real bite from cold for the F10 and F90 M5, and on the B58 540i an intake that lets the six be heard. E60 owners will find the same H&R spring and Hawk street pads in the full list. Everything here carries forward to stage 2 instead of getting replaced by it.

Stage 2 · M5 stage 2 parts list

Breathing and heat, in the right order.

For the twin-turbo cars stage 2 starts with air and temperature: a cold-air system and twin charge-air coolers for the F10 M5, an aluminum charge pipe for the B58 540i, a bigger oil cooler for the S63, and on the F90 and G90 the AWE Track Edition cat-backs that finally give these cars a voice. Be clear about the S63 and S68 though: real stage 2 on an F90 or G90 is ECU and TCU calibration plus supporting hardware, which we source for the shop rather than list online. The online catalog for these cars is brakes and suspension heavy, and the 550i and M550i xDrive have almost no engine hardware listed. Tell us the car and we’ll quote the package.

Stage 3 · track prep parts list

Track prep: control before power.

An M5 is quick down any straight. What decides your track day is whether two tons of sedan stops and turns on lap eight the way it did on lap one, with Florida heat in the rotors. Our stage 3 list is coilovers that respect the electronic dampers on the E60 and F90, a height-adjustable spring kit for the G90 while it is this new, two-piece racing rotors for the F10, and race pads for the E60 through the F90. The G90’s brake catalog is essentially empty today; we source pads and rotors for it directly. Big-power S63 and S68 work beyond this is a custom conversation with the shop.

Show & stance

Fitment that photographs as well as it drives.

The E60 and F10 cars run 5x120 with a 72.6mm bore; every F90, G30 and G90 moved to 5x112 with a 66.5mm bore. Either way the door is open to BBS, RAYS, Vossen and the rest of the premium catalog in the 19in to 21in staggered sizes these sedans wear best. We spec wheels, tires, drop and alignment as one package, mounted on scratch-free equipment and Road Force balanced in-house, with the offset done right so the rear arches fill without rubbing under compression.

  • Wheel and tire packages spec’d for 5x120 and 5x112 5 Series fitments
  • Sport springs or coilovers matched to the wheel setup, electronic dampers kept working
  • Hunter Road Force balancing and expert alignment
  • TPMS sensors in stock, cloned to your car

Installed in-house

Parts are half the build. Installation is the other half.

Everything on this page can be installed, set up and aligned in our own shop. Coilovers go in with the ride height corner-weighted and EDC either kept alive with the right cancellation module or retained by design, charge coolers and charge pipes go on with every coupler seated and pressure-checked, pads and rotors get bedded properly, and every suspension change ends on our Hunter alignment system so a two-ton sedan drives the way the parts list promised instead of wandering under braking.

  • Lift work, brake, cooling and suspension installs done in-house
  • EDC and adaptive-damper aware setups, no warning lights
  • Hunter alignment with corner weighting for lowered and coilover cars
  • Road-checked before the car goes back to you

Sourcing the parts the catalog doesn’t show

ECU and TCU calibration for the S63 and S68, downpipes, E60 rod-bearing service and G90 brake hardware are things we source and install for M5 customers directly rather than list online. If your plan needs them, send the car details below and we’ll quote the complete package with installation.

M5 questions

Before you order parts.

Will lowering springs or coilovers break EDC?

Not if they are chosen for it. The springs on this page leave the factory electronic dampers in place, the Bilstein B16 for the E60 M5 is the EDC version, the KW V4 for the F90 ships with the cancellation modules so there are no warning lights, and the G90 kit adjusts height on the factory adaptive dampers. Tell us whether your car has EDC or adaptive M suspension and we’ll map the list to it.

Do the E60, F10, F90, G30 and G90 share parts?

Some. The F10 and F90 M5 share the S63 family, so the oil cooler and Hawk’s DTC-70 pad cover both, and the 540i and M550i xDrive share G30 springs. The E60 with its V10 is on its own, and the G90 is nearly all new. Our lists call out which cars each part fits; send us your exact car and we’ll confirm before anything is ordered.

Do I need a tune for stage 1?

No. Our M5 stage 1 list is springs, a matched damper kit, pads and intake — all of it works on the stock calibration, and none of it gets thrown away when you move to stage 2 later.

What does stage 2 actually mean on an F90 or G90 M5?

ECU and TCU calibration for the S63 or S68 plus the supporting hardware: charge cooling, oil cooling, downpipes and an exhaust. The calibration and downpipes aren’t in our online catalog; we source and install them as a package. The online catalog for these cars is brakes and suspension heavy, and the G90 has almost no brake hardware listed yet, so expect a conversation with the shop rather than a cart.

Can you install and align everything here?

Yes. Every part on this page can be installed in our Coral Springs shop, and suspension work is finished on our Hunter alignment system with corner weighting when the car calls for it. We serve enthusiasts across South Florida, from Boca Raton and Parkland to Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

M5 & 5 Series parts

Which M5 or 5 Series are you building?

Our catalog lists 5 Series fitment by model, so pick the M5 card for your generation or the 540i, M550i or 535i / 550i card for the non-M cars — check each product’s fitment notes for trim-specific pieces. The 535i / 550i card searches as a 550i; set your exact model and year in the catalog to narrow further.
